The developer who coined Memory Engineering: the practices and harnesses that let agents keep state, retrieve context and hold up in production.
// 01 / Bio
Richmond Alake is the Director of AI Developer Experience at Oracle, where he leads AI developer outreach and marketing across Oracle’s data and AI ecosystem, helping developers adopt Oracle AI Database capabilities such as vector search, in-database ML and JSON Relational Duality for modern AI and agentic applications.
He writes and speaks frequently on the modern AI agent stack, agent memory and the emerging discipline of Memory Engineering: the practices and harnesses that help agents persist state, retrieve context and adapt reliably in production. Before Oracle, Richmond worked in AI/ML developer advocacy and applied ML roles focused on production-grade AI systems and developer education.

Agent memory engineering: towards continual learning in token space
Abstract
Most agents start every session from zero. They can reason, call tools and follow instructions, but they don’t get better at the job they were deployed to do. Continual learning has usually meant updating model weights, which is slow, expensive and hard to audit.
This session takes a different route: continual learning in token space. The agent improves because you engineer what it retains, how it refines that knowledge over time, and what it recalls into context when it matters. Richmond builds a memory-aware agent on a real memory substrate and works through the four Rs of memory engineering: retain, reuse, refine and recall.
You’ll see how to extract memory from execution traces, consolidate it and resolve conflicts, forget without deleting, and run evaluations that show whether the agent improved between sessions.
What you’ll learn
How continual learning in token space differs from fine-tuning
Patterns for memory extraction, consolidation, decay and retrieval you can apply to your own stack
How to make learning observable: what changed, why, and whether performance improved
Building an agent that improves across sessions without any weight updates
